Academic Chair:
Providing our members with the tools to be successful is an essential role that I feel capable of filling. For my own personal career development I have always asked and sought advice from others about the academic experiences that would be most meaningful to achieve those ends. My peers in my section, have noticed this diligence and as a result those with similar career interests often ask for advice or to let them know about response that I get for questions I ask.

In addition, I have served a similar role before as scholarship chair of my fraternity of 60-80 brothers in undergrad. With this experience, and my understanding of this position, as Academic Chair I will:

First, as default member of the community service committee, I feel that I would provide continuity to help whoever is the community service chair to organize service opportunities for BLSA members. Whether that be an elected community service chair, who can collaborate with me over the summer or a 1L to help guide through the process I think I can be successful in that role.

Second, I believe that after attending the Community Organizing workshop and hearing about the role Austin McCoy's grad student group played in supporting and affirming black undergrads during a difficult time on campus, I would work with BULA and the other graduate student orgs on campus to ensure that we support and affirm each other in a very white space when issues arise on campus.

Third, in demonstrating these things and sharing the positive stories through our website and our social media (perhaps have a BLSA twitter page with eboard approved tweets advertising events???) we can promote MBLSA as a place that black law students want to be and thrive
