To give someone hope – is allowing the individual to explore so many wonderful ideas of what it is like to have great possibilities- in living their life to the fullest, however; to help someone become more optimistic about life is giving them something to stand on – it allows them to actually see a difference and experience change. Counseling provides individuals with the opportunity to express their challenges – in knowing that there’s a way to use positive tools, that can be life changing, and ongoing. As I reflect on being a Sergeant in the military – being a leader was not my only job, when Soldiers were experiencing tough situation mentally and physically – my number one goal was to provide them with a piece of advice that I knew they could stand on and continue to push …show more content…
In essence - helping others learn to cope with their issue is vital. We all know someone or may have experienced ourselves - losing a loved one, going through a divorce, dealing with financial struggles – and it may have caused a bit of frustration, unsureness, the feeling of worthlessness and a mountain of other negative feelings, but that does not mean that’s where it ends. Postulating different perspectives in dealing with tough situations – often times help the hopeless make a different assessment in the matter – by placing every thought into its proper place, within the mind. As the years pass us by – we all have had the opportunity to take a look around – observing the world for what it really is, and then ask ourselves “What can I do to make a change?” …well through counseling is how I’d like to help make a change - either one individual at a time or an entire group. My goal is to continue to educate myself and gain experience so that I can help those that struggle against nihilism. This is a battle that can take time, patience, empathy, understanding, and compassion toward the individual that is seeking counsel. The mind is a beautiful thing, and understanding it is just as
