“I HAVE HAD A HAPPY LIFE AND THANK THE LORD. GOODBYE AND MAY GOD BLESS ALL!”was said by Chris Mccandless before going unconsciousness in his sleeping bag and dying around August 18, 1992. Chris was part of a wealthy family with a great desire of leaving far away from the corrupted society and from his materialistic parents, by doing this, he hitchhiked alone to Alaska into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley. He was a smart guy who seemed to feel lonely and empty on his finals days. I believe Chris was ignorant and bright, but I disagree he was crazy. He was arrogant for being careless and from that, the biggest mistake came, leaving to Alaska unprepared. “Once Alex made up his mind about something, there was no changing it.” said Westerberg (pg.6). As you can see, he had a great desire going to Alaska,into the wilderness. “There was just no talking the guy out of it. He was determined. Real gung ho. The word that comes to mind is excited. I agree he had a bright personality, touching soul and was a clever guy. He had arrogance and was stubborn giving him the idea of running away far into Alaska, especially not accepting help from others and leaving unprepared. Maybe, he was selfish for being careless of what his parents offered him. I do believe Chris was not crazy, he knew what he was doing even if his actions led him to death. He was emotionally hurt and wanted to escape his reality of pain from his parents and society judgements. He didn’t understand why people were cruel to each other and why money can be so controlling.
