Final Project While cultural competency has been highlighted throughout the counseling literature as being essential for the delivery of effective and competent counseling services, it is also emphasized as being the ethical duty of the counselor. According to the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics (2014) “Preamble”, the ethical counselor is tasked with “honoring diversity and embracing a multicultural approach in support of the worth, dignity, potential, and uniqueness of people within their social and cultural contexts” (p. 3). To provide a comprehensive profile of the participant’s cultural worldview, individual aspects of the ADDRESSING format are assessed to include age or generational influences, developmental or other disability, religion and spiritual orientation, ethnic and racial identity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, indigenous heritage, national origin, and gender (Hays, 2016). Following the presentation of the cultural profile, the interviewee’s cultural worldview is evaluated in relation to the relevant research on aspects of cultural identity and the complexity of the participant’s cultural identity is explored. As the interviewee highlighted during the interview that the most salient parts of her identity were related to her country of origin as a Trinbagonian and as an individual of Afro-Caribbean descent, I experienced a significant amount of difficulty with obtaining research as the body of research on cultural identity within Trinidad and Tobago as well as Afro-Caribbean descent is significantly limited. Though the research is very limited, my diligent research produced an article by Hall and Carter (2006) addressing the correlation between Afro-Caribbean descent and racial and ethnic identity that provided me with thought-provoking insight into the salient identity highlighted by the
