Do you ever wonder about the day that changed America?. The destruction and the number of lives that were lost took lots of people by surprise. See you never know what the government could have done, or what the city protection did, or what the destruction had done to people across the United States. The attacks of September 11th, 2001 not only changed America, but changed the entire world. At 9:43 am, American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the western face of the Pentagon. 125 people were killed and about 400,000 square feet of the Pentagon was destroyed. The plane had hit a heliport, or an airport, then flipped into the western face of the Pentagon causing an explosion of debris. One of the naval officers in the Pentagon was watching with his other workers and said “ If that can happen there, then what’s stopping it from happening here?” No more than 10 minutes later the Pentagon had been hit. At 10:10 am the western face of the Pentagon collapsed. The building was reconstructed in 16 months and people were soon working in the Pentagon again. When the World Trade Center was hit the president of the United States, George W. Bush, was reading at an elementary school in Florida. When the south tower came down, one firefighter protected himself by hiding under his truck, when he got back out from under it everyone else on his rescue team was dead from the debris.
