As I read through chapter two, I realize the tightrope walk the hiring process has turned into. Just most rules have a name behind them; I’m sure there are company names behind many of these hiring practices and antidiscrimination rules. When you think about entire organizations that are in existence to ensure the fair and equal treatment of people/employees, you realize there are a lot of people being unfairly treated, or at least claiming to be. For someone to prove they haven’t discriminated or shown favoritism, they must go into the process with a plan to justify and show all the reasoning behind their decision making. In so doing, you prepare to defend yourself from common allegations, such as discrimination. According to Berman, Bowman, West and Van Wert (2016), “The most straightforward claim is one alleging disparate treatment discrimination, also known as intentional discrimination” (p. 78). …show more content…
This includes having additional people involved to avoid the one on one, he said, she said. You can also use audio and/or video recording during the process as well. Some employers record the interview process, which is maintained per their records retention schedule. This would help to refute false claims, or conversely, assist in proving discrimination violation. This would be a very helpful piece of evidence, in addition to any other direct and/or indirect evidence presented.
When looking at all the different areas addressed in the hiring process for law enforcement officers, you must be certain that the process is not only fair, but also thorough.
