They say that competition is healthy but what happens to a person’s wellbeing when the deck is stacked in favor of the privileged few and your competitions head start is a few yards short of the finish line. The United States of America has long been considered on the richest nations in the world and despite this distinction and our recent economic recovery we still lag behind other developed countries on many health indicators. One demonstration of this lag is in the category of life expectancy. Although the United States is an economic powerhouse the populations of poorer countries such as Costa Rica, Greece and Spain all enjoy a longer life expectancy. The question then is why?
