The first five presidents for the United States impacted the United States greatly and their names were George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe. The president I think that impacted the U.S the most was George Washington who was in office for eight years (1789-1797). George Washington who was the commander in chief and led the army in the Revolutionary War and gained freedom from Great Britain at that time there was thirteen colonies in the United States. In 1783 George Washington signed a peace treaty with Great Britain. He was a Federalist, mainly because there were only two choices Federalists and Antifederalists. Later on October 18, 1797 three Americans were sent to France by Adams to represent a United States peace commission. It was called the XYZ Affair because; each agent went by XYZ and in 1798 Adams found out it failed so he called for a restraint. The eleventh amendment was declared by John Adams on January 08, 1798 and it says that federal courts shall not have the jurisdiction over litigation between individuals from one state against individuals from another state. On July 07, 1798 John Adams appointed George Washington to be the commander in chief for the United States army. Before Washington was the United States capital Pennsylvania was the capital, then later on Adams made Washington in the District of Columbia the capital of the United States. In November John Adams moved in the White House that wasn’t even completely built. On September 30, 1800 the quasi naval war ended with a signing of the Treaty of Mortefontaine in Paris and France agreed to use their ships and respect the ships while the United States agreed to give back all captured ship they took but not the privateers. Thomas Jefferson was the first president to be inaugurated in Washington D.C and won the elections against Aaron Burr. On January 08, 1802 a convention between Britain and the United States occurred, and they discussed the treaty of 1794 with them and say that the United States owes £2,664,000 to British citizens. On March 16, 1802 the congress decide to reduce the army size to what it used to be in 1796 and Thomas Jefferson signed into law an official military academy at West Point. On April 06, 1802 excise taxes on alcohol products are repealed or taken away. On April 30, 1802 Thomas Jefferson signed the Enabling Act which says procedures under which territories organized under the Ordinance of 1787 can become a state and the law authorizes people from Ohio territory to hold a convention and frame a constitution. May 03, 1802 the congress incorporates Washington as a city giving Thomas Jefferson the ability to appoint the mayor. On February 19, 1803 Jefferson says that Ohio is the seventeenth state of the Union and is the first state to prohibit slavery. On February 24, 1803 one of the most important Supreme Court cases happened,” Marbury vs. Madison”.
