Discrimination or Not? "He is gay", the lady whispered to her friends when she saw a man walked into the coffee shop. All eyes started at him- a handsome guy with a nice body and friendly smile. Everyone started to whisper to each other while their eyes still looked at him. Sometime, I could see an ironic smile appear on their faces. At that time, the other guys that were on another table tried to make fun of him. The man who was called gay quickly ordered his drink and walked out the shop without looking up. People continued to talk about him even after he walked out the door. The story happened years ago, but it is still held in my mind up till today. So many times I wondered that why gay people cannot be treated like other people while they are also human. By the time, society has changed. Today, gay people are being treated equal like straight people. However, in some case, they do not have the same rights like other people such as getting married. So that, we should make same-sex marriage become legal. Even though they are less or gay parents, people still should not oppose their marriages because same-sex marriage is beneficial to our society; they are good parents and create special environment for children to grow; and they should have the right to get married. First of all, although they are gay or less, they are still human beings, so that they should have equal rights like other people. " I am beautiful in my way because God makes no mistakes. I am on the right track, and I was born this way"(Lady GaGa). That is the lyric of a famous song " Born This Way" which was received a lot of supports from people around the world. The lyric is true. Nobody can choose their parents, their family, or their gender so that it is not their fault for being gay or less." The freedom to marry has long been recognized as one of the vital personal rights essential to the orderly pursuit of happiness by free men"( Knowland). It is ridiculous that people always talk about animals right when they are denying the right of homosexual people. America is known for its freedom and equal opportunity rights; that is why people come to live and start a new life here. In America, everyone is equal. It seems like there is no discrimination in here; and people are punished if they do that. For example, if you have a racial behavior with other people, you can be prosecuted for that. Now, several countries are trying to decrease discrimination and increase equality, but some people still look at same-sex marriage with a look like the one white people used to give to black many years ago." Thirty-five years ago, who could have imagined that we'd have an African-American President of the United States?" (Dodd). However, now we already have one. Now in today's society, no matter what race you are, black, white, or Asian, you are equal to other people. In addition, women have fight for their rights to be equal to men for centuries; and they made it. So, why should gay people not have their rights and be equal to other people? "The ruling in Lawrence emphasized that laws against homosexuality interfered with the most private aspects of consensual adult relations. The right to privacy is an expression of the more general democratic and legal proposition that the state does not have a right to impose a moral standard on individuals, except to prevent actions that harm others, e.g., criminal actions such as theft, homicide, fraud and the like" (Knowland). Furthermore, same-sex marriage is helpful for our society. First, because they are same-sex parents, they cannot have a baby naturally. Therefore, they will be the one who tend to adopt children more than straight parents. "According to a 2007 report by the Williams Institute and the Urban Institute, 65,000 kids were living with adoptive gay parents between 2000 and 2002, with another 14,000 in foster homes headed by gays and lesbians" (Pappas). Also, the special thing is " More than half of the kids
