This article covers the topic of how faculty members of universities view carrying concealed handguns on campus. College campuses historically have always not allowed the carrying of concealed weapons on campus, but pro-gun organizations are trying to change the campus policies to where a person is able to carry a concealed handgun on university campuses. This article focuses its study on a questionnaire that was given to 1,125 faculty members at 15 randomly selected state universities around the 5 Great Lakes states in which they were asked their opinions on the subject. In comparison to the first article who pointed fingers at the pro-gun organizations, the authors of this article think that the want for a change in the policy of having weapons on campus was caused by the recent gun violence at American universities. With that thought in mind, the authors decided to do a study focusing on college student and faculties opinions on two college campuses, focusing on their attitudes towards people carrying concealed weapons around campus. The study consisted of over 2,100 students, staff, faculty, and administrators participating between both college campuses in under a year. The study showed that about 70% of the people that responded oppose the option of carrying a concealed weapon on campus and that the idea of more guns on campus actually makes the majority of faculty and students feel less safe on campus. This article focuses on a study done in which the authors sent surveys out to only females at California State University, Chico in which they were asked their opinions on allowing concealed weapons on college campuses. Out of the 794 women at the university, about 80% of them did not want permitted individuals to be allowed to carry concealed weapons on campus. Along with that the survey also asked if the women would feel safer with an increased amount of concealed weapons on campus and if an increased amount of guns on campus would promote a greater sense of campus safety; both questions were majoritively responded with “no”.
