Thirty homeless individuals (18-24-year-olds) currently staying at a local homeless shelter, on the street or with friends will be used as participants. In order to participate in research project individuals need to have been or have experienced homelessness before the age of 18, and have had a separation or loss of one or both parents or guardians before homelessness occurred. The participants will be located in Tri-Cities, Washington. The homeless shelter is Tri-city Union Gospel mission in Pasco, Washington. Informed consent will be obtained from participants prior to the interview taking place. In order to maintain privacy participants will be interviewed one on one in a private setting and assigned a code that will later be used when coding given data collected in study. Confidentiality will be maintained by protect interviewee’s documentation and recordings per NASW protocol and IRB strategies.

There are no restrictions for participation based on gender or ethnicity. Participants will be interviewed one-on-one, and will only be interviewed on a single occasion. All interviews for the study will take place over a 2-week period and will take approximately 60-90 minutes each to conduct. The interviews will take place in private, e.g conference rooms, coffee shops, bookstores. The script and questions will be read aloud to the participants by the interviewer and their responses documented via the audio recorder, and transcribed afterwards. Interviewers will follow the list of predetermined questions, prompting the participant for more information when appropriate. After each interview the interviewee will be thanked for participating. Transcribing of interviews will be completed within one-week of the interview taking
