James Madison was Born on March 16,1751 in Virginia. He was the oldest of 12 children. Madison took an interest in the relationship between the Colonies and Britain. According to history.com , “During Madison’s work in the Virginia legislature, he met life long friend Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence and the third President (History).” When Madison was a politician he fought for religious freedom, believing it was an individual's right.
In 1780 Madison became a Virginia delegate to the continental congress in Philadelphia. James Madison left Congress in 1783 to go back to Virginia.The colonies declared independence from Britain in 1776. Articles of Confederation was created as the first constitution of the United Stated Madison was elected to the newly formed U.S House of Representative. He served from 1789 to 1797. While he was in Congress, Madison worked to draft the Bill of Right, which is a group of 10 amendments to the Constitution that spelled out fundamental rights.
In may 1787, delegates from each state came together at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia and Madison was able to present ideas for an effective government system in his “Virginia Plan,” which detalled a government with three branches: legislative, executive and judicial. …show more content…
