How Did James Madison Contribute To Government

James Madison was born on March 16th, 1751 in Belle Grove, Port Conway. He was the eldest brother of 12, whom only 7 made it to adulthood. His father was a successful farmer who owned 3,000 acres of land and lots of slaves. And his mother was the daughter of a tobacco merchant. Madison was very ill for most of his early years so his father had him stay home to get private tutoring because of his health. Then Madison went to college in 1769 at the college of New Jersey to study Latin, Greek, Science, and philosophy. Madison graduated in 1771 , but stayed after to study with his pal Reverend John Witherspoon.
Ratification of the Constitution
After colonies declared independence from Britain in 1777, the Articles of Confederation were created as the very first Constitution. The articles were then ratified in 1781 and gave most power to individual state legislatures. James Madison represented VIrginia at the constitutional Convention. But was a federalist but wanted a strong government at heart. And came to a conclusion that America need a stronger federal government to create a better system for raising federal money. He wrote the first drafts of the Constitution, he was co- writer of the Federalist papers, and sponsored the Bill of Rights. Jame Madison also introduced the idea of checks and balances and thought that no person should have all of the political power. Then, James madison and was with John Jay and Alexander Hamilton started writing articles, which then led to the federalist papers to convince states to ratify the new constitution.
