Personally I think that that between James Madison’s War Message to Congress and Senators Obadiah German’s Speech Against the Adoption of a War, James Madison’s made a better case for war with Britain. Things needed to change and I do feel war was the only way to obtain change. Over the years the British had been capturing American sailors and Forced them to fight for the British Navy. According to The American Yawp over 6,000 American sailors were forced to fight with the British Navy. However, the British thought they had a proper reason to do this. America was offering a better pay to its sailors and all one had to do was renounce their allegiance to their home countries in order to become an American citizen. Both Groups were unhappy that the Americans were officially living in North America. The British were unhappy because in their eyes the Americans had betrayed them. The Native Americans were upset because the Americans had taken over their lands and constantly looked down upon the Native Americans. In the end the Americans were enemies to both and when you have common enemies what do you do? You team up. The British would give the Native Americans goods and weapons to ensure that if another war would happen Between America and Britain the Native Americans would be on the British side of the fighting. I do believe there were more reasons why the War of 1812 was a necessity for the Americans but the reasons above are the two of the biggest reasons. Senator Obadiah German’s speech is full of fear of shedding more American blood, “ Is Great Britain less powerful now, than she was twenty years ago? No, sir, this constant warfare has increased her powers instead of diminishing them” (Speech Against the Adoption of a War Resolution, 102). Senator German goes on to talk about how Britain’s power has only increased because of her Navy and her power over India. “She controls the destinies of more than thirty millions of people on the continent of Asia” (Speech Against the Adoption of a War Resolution, 102).
