In the process of making a portrait collage of Karana in “The Island of the Blue Dolphins”, I thought about several traits that I represented using various different colors and images in this collage. Throughout the novel, one trait that Karana shows is being fierce, which means Karana shows intense aggressivity toward somethings. To show that Karana is fierce, I flipped through different magazines and ripped off pieces of the color red, orange ,and yellow and stuck them to represent her hair. These colors show that Karana is being more tough,liking challenges, proving that she can do roles of both gender in her village, and she is powerful. To show that Kareena has perspective. I ripped off bright colors, and dark colors and into 4 parts and stucked to represent her face. This shows that throughout the novel Karana has lived a very sad,loss,death,and dark life because of all the people and animals that have died and left her. Karana also lived a joyful, happy,bright, and content life.The final trait that Karana shows in this novel is her respect for animals and nature on the island. On the island Karans lets the animals do their own things she doesn’t force them to do anything. She also has feelings for some animals such as Rontu, the birds, Aru-Rontu, and Won-a-nee. She also treats some animals like Run To. In the collage I cut different images of nature suck them together to create the background. Then, I stuck a dolphin to show that she has a relationship of respect with the animals on the island.In conclusion, I tried to choose some traits that perfectly fit the Karana’s character and I choose colors and images to represent
