Why can’t teens drink? Something that pretty much every 18 years old complains about is “Why am I not able to buy alcohol?” America is one of the very few countries that have a 21-year-old age restriction. Most countries allow their residents to consume alcohol at the age of 18 as America did back before the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 was passed. Then punishing every state that did not raise drinking ages to 21 years of age. The legal age to consume alcohol should be changed for many reasons. First off in America at the age of 18, you can go down to the corner store and buy a pack of cigarettes a product known to cause cancer and death in high numbers of its users. An American who is 18 may also go to any gun shop and buy him or herself an assault rifle and apply for the army. While there could obviously be downsides to lowering the age, if America could step it up they could spread more awareness for safe drinking. …show more content…

While consuming at least one alcoholic beverage a day studies have shown that it can help lower your risk of developing and dying from heart disease, possibly reduce the risk of certain strokes and even possibly reduce the consumer's risks of getting diabetes.
