Graduating high school I was unsure if the medical field was right for me. I had no experience whatsoever and I felt like I may be scared away from the idea of nursing if I didn’t at least try to experience just what it is like to be in a environment like that. That’s when I applied for my job as an aide at a hospital close to where I live. I went in for an interview and the next day they called me in for my orientation. That decision was one of the best ones I’ve ever made. I love my job at Davis Medical Center working as an aide. I have learned so much; from learning to take vitals, to transferring patients the correct way, to even getting the to see many different things that the doctors do at bedside. That all changed though when I had to have my gallbladder removed due to gallstones causing me pain. As I was having an attack one day I got admitted into the hospital and realized I was in the same shoes that my patients are when they come into the hospital. I knew how much the nurses and doctors meant to me when I needed them most. They were listeners, my safe haven, and even my shoulder to cry on when I was scared about being put to sleep. Without them I’m not sure I could’ve gotten through it all. In my life I want to be just like that to somebody else. I want them to rely on me and consider me to have those same characteristics when they need need it. The thought of caring for people and being there hero is what brought me closer to my desire to be nurse. Being a practical nurse I will have a chance to learn more about nursing in a new perspective than what I do now. Although I enjoy the patient interaction and experiences I have as an aide I am ready to further my education so that I can help patients even more than I can and do now. Being a practical nurse will be a hard job, but it will also be a very rewarding
