My Writing Skills

To be frank, I was never an avid writer or reader. I read in middle school sometimes because I liked it, but as I grew older I lost the passion. I read only what was assigned by the teacher. I did however find interest again in seventh grade. However, I read only to fish out information that would be asked on the test or quiz. This is something I know I should not not do. Adults want us to “read for enjoyment” but I find enjoyment in other mediums. Even knowing this, I know reading critically is an important skill for success in the working world. My writing would slowly change from eighth grade to high school.
Unfortunately, in seventh and eighth grade, I wrote but nothing it was too difficult or taxing. My skills for writing were hindered because the lack of grammar teaching. It was taught but again nothing beyond the minimal. I would say the most memorable writing I did in seventh grade was writing a book as class. Our teacher really wanted us to finish this by the end of the second semester. She gave us a simple writing prompt for each topic to decide what would write about. Each chapter also an accompanying prompt. What

In American Literature & Composition there was more literary analysis and discussion. The teacher would discuss the material of the book in class. Sometimes as far as ranting and rambling about the subject. Grammar was taught earlier which helped my writing. The teacher really focused on succinct and concise writing to get our point. Our point should be made and moved on. With the best of my efforts, my writing was still lacking critical skill. I did about the same in other classes. I found the essays to be daunting. When we did go the computer lab to do a quick page analysis I found that to be easier. I made more sense and could think more clearly then having a week or so and turning in an essay. My writing did slightly improve because of this, but I still had a ways to
