Obstacles in life are some of the toughest things to face. Mine was the fear of being alone and it took me about 6 years to conquer it. It started when I was 8 years old going on a summer vacation with my family. It was on July 27, 2008; when my parents received the worst call I could imagine a parent could receive. They had the phone on speaker and I heard it all. I was in the back seat when I broke down in the most dreadful way possible. My brother- in- law had called to tell us that they had just got in a car accident and that he and my niece are just a little startled, but my sister was in the worst condition possible and she might not make it. We were 3 hours away from them because we were planning to go to Houston, Texas so we had to go back to Brownsville. As I was in the back seat feeling lost and crying worse than “La Llorona,” it felt as if it was the end of the world for me. I feared that anyone I let in at any moment they will just leave me all alone. I can still remember the feeling, it was like some psycho just came and yanked my heart out. So as I enter everyone welcomed me and it felt so amazing that I kept going to the camp. That’s when they ask me, “Kim, what’s holding you back from showing us who you are? Or even open up about yourself?” Finally I decided to get up and I told the whole group my story. As soon as I finished, I broke down into tears, but this core member came up to be and said, “Kim, you are not alone, you have us, God, and the one you think left you forever in your heart.” At that moment I felt like if I was renewed and that my fear was finally gone. I then felt better than ever that I faced my fear. I finally recognized that there are many obstacles in life but we have to figure past
