During conferences I found myself to be very professional. Although it can be intimidating to talk to parents when you are a first-year teacher this practice mock conference made it seem real and I felt that I was professional with the parent and was able to communicate in a way that was professional and confident. During the mock conferences I was first a teacher. When I was the teacher I spoke to Amanda who was the parent of Chelsey and explained and informed her about her daughter’s progress. When playing the role of the teacher I made sure to include both Amanda’s and Chelsey’s voice and input. I first started off the conference by asking how their day was going and greeted them both. I greeted Amanda by shaking her hand and looking her in the eye and I greeted Chesley with a handshake that we came up with. After I heard from both Amanda and Chelsey I began to go over the curriculum explaining how Chelsey was doing in each subject. Together as teacher and family we set a goal for improvement after reviewing biggest weaknesses and we also celebrated her biggest achievements. These two roles were the hardest roles to play, but the most fun to make up. What was hard about being in these roles is that I could make up a personality and portray my self as one way and then the teacher and parent could portray the student as a different person. However, looking back at my conference when I played the role of the teacher I feel that I gave Amanda as the parent and Chelsey as the student valuable information and I learned valuable information about both of the roles through communicating. This evidence will help me plan in the future and provide skills and strategies to help all roles
