transactions from the COHC electronic medical record, as well as integrate with LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) to access Active Directory (AD) services for secure end user access. Macneil (2017) explained that alerts can be transmitted via the WCTP protocol to MH-Cure, the MHB mobility application used throughout the COHC community (E. MacNeil, personal communication, September 22, 2017). This gathered information from technical discussions were shared with the multidisciplinary project team. The project team was confident with the evaluation of the Connexall alarm management middleware system and received positive feedback from comparable healthcare institutions that validated findings.
Technology Recommendation. Ouellette (2017) and the technical team evaluated the technology in detail, and agreed Connexall to be the best of breed alarm management middleware solution and has the ability to integrate with the majority of medical equipment that supports the NICU. The COHC project team concluded that the proposed solution could leverage existing investments in MHB, the current standard for mobile communications. Technical experts agree that

The technology allows the integration of the patient monitor, ventilator, and incubator with the R5 nurse call system to create the dome light visibility in hallways for alarm notification to caregivers. The incubator will be the only medical device to send alerts through R5 to the Connexall system as it was decided this was the only feasible method of integrating the incubator since it did not have other means such as sending discreet data like the Philips monitor via HL7 and ventilator through Capsule integration. As discreet data will not be sent from the incubator, the alarm viewed on the MHB device will include the location and the text Incubator
