There were many transformations in world migration patterns that caused changes and continuities between the 1700s and the 1900s. Some changes that occurred were that the Industrial Revolution occurred: bringing new technology such as boats, which allowed more sea migration, trains/railroads, which also allowed for more land migration than ever before. As many more opportunities became available for further migration many things stayed the same. Immigrants used the same methods to migrate to the Americas, which shows that the same technology limited their travel. Also, the main reason to migrate to America was mainly for the opportunity to have a better and more tranquil life.

Many things changed when it came to migration between the 1700s and the 1900s. First of all, the Industrial Revolution gave way to steam boats. The Industrial Revolution first began in Britain in the 1760s.The Industrial Revolution marks a major turning point in history. This was because almost every aspect of daily life was influenced in some way. This was when the first steamboats were invented. The steamboat’s main purpose at this time was for faster travel around the Atlantic Ocean. Steamboats now allow people to have more and easier access to the seas as a way to migrate to the United States. Also, the Industrial Revolution gave way to trains and railroad tracks. Before the Industrial Revolution, railroads were called Wagonways and were being used in Germany as early as 1550, before the Industrial Revolution. These railroads were made of wooden rails because horse-pulled wagons and carts moved with greater ease over dirt roads. Wagonways were the beginnings of modern railroads. By 1776, iron became essential and replaced the wood in the rails and wheels on the carts. Wagonways then turned into Tramways and spread throughout Europe. At this time, horses were still used for pulling. In 1789, the first wagons with flanged wheels were designed. The flange was a groove that allowed the wheels to better grip the rail, which was an important design that became essential for later locomotives. The invention of the steam engine was critical to the invention of the modern railroad and trains. In 1803, the steam-powered vehicle replaced the horse-pulled carts on the tramways. Steam engines in Britain were first used for workers(slaves) to travel faster when working to find natural resources such as coal. The steam engine was also used for people to migrate from Britain to other parts in Europe. Today trains are used to travel wherever one may please. A train makes several stops on several different parts of the land for people to get off and explore.
