Have you ever wanted to give up on hope? Well some great examples on why someone shouldn’t give up in the book “the Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” by, Sherman Alexie. The book is about a teenage boy that has nothing going his way and how he deals with it and how he never gives up. There are many themes present in the book “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian”. One particular theme that is present throughout the story is if you want hope you can have hope.
There are many examples of when Junior goes for his hope but three examples that one person could put together to explain this theme are as follows. Junior is excited about his geometry class but when he gets to class the teacher is never there on time and when junior gets his book he realizes that the books have to be at least 30 yrs old and gets mad and throws the book at his teacher and got expelled. His teacher Mr. P comes to junior house and tells him that junior has hope and that the rez in gonna kill his hope and that junior needs to leave the rez. So when junior’s parents get home junior asks them who has the most hope and they both answered white people, so junior said he wanted to go to a different school of the rez. ” i want to go to Rearden...no if i don’t go now i will never, i have to do it now”(Alexie 46). This quote is a great example of the theme because junior is a rez kid that nobody expects to get anywhere in life, then he decided to leave the rez
