Rue explains that religion has two functions for mankind, one it provides a sense of wholeness for the person, and preserving order in society. Religion fulfills wholeness in a person by way of explain and helping understand the unknown, one could also call this therapy. Religion can preserve order in a society by way of politics, now this does not mean talking about your political ideologies. In this case it means talking to your brother and sister for the common good. On the surface one can agree that religion does serve these two function, but under more investigation one can see that these functions can be flawed at times.
