Romeo
The play “Romeo and Juliet,” is written by famous British playwright William Shakespeare. It begins with a large fight between the Capulets and Montegues in Verona, Italy. Two individuals, Romeo Montegue and Juliet Capulet go through struggles in order to be together. Romeo is one of the main characters in the play and comes from a rich family by the name of Montegue. Throughout the story Romeo shows a variety of personalities. Romeo is a handsome man who matures to adulthood at a young age. Later on in the play, Romeo meets Juliet at the Capulet’s house and that in loving her; he discovers that not only sadness, but joy is part of life. In the beginning of the play, Romeo is quite fickle and falls in love with one girl after another. He then comes across Juliet and changes. For example, when we first see Romeo, he’s madly in love with Rosaline. The moment he encounters Juliet, Rosaline is forgotten and Juliet becomes the object of his overwhelming love. Romeo is also passionate because after meeting Juliet for a minute, he slowly takes her hand and leans in for a kiss. Romeo then says “sin from thy lips? O trespass sweetly urged! Give me my sin again,” and leans in for another kiss. Romeo wears plenty of velvet, blue and purple shades. He also wears leggings, tunics, and codpieces to indicate that he comes from a wealthy family. In act 1, scene 5, lines 51-60, Romeo’s soliloquy shows that he is struck by love at first sight when he sees Juliet at the party. He expresses his love for her by comparing Juliet to a rich jewel on an Ethiop’s ear, beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear and a snowy dove trooping with crows.
