If a school were to start later I believe that students would be more focused and awake during each class. Considering most teenagers would rather stay up later and be tired when they have to wake up early than go to bed early and wake up early and be less tired. Most teens start their sleep cycle around eleven at night and it continues until six in the morning when most have to get up for school. Most schools start between seven thirty in the morning to eight in the morning which is pretty early for someone who doesn’t go to bed early enough to be fully awake at that time. Most researchers believe students don’t wake up completely until around nine in the morning. Public schools in Indiana should start no later than ten in the morning. Indiana’s Public schools should start no earlier than ten in the morning considering students don’t completely function until around nine in the morning (“Why Change?”). When the child grows older their sleep pattern is going to change as much as they do. A younger child is most likely going to go to sleep earlier and be mentally and physically prepared to wake up early in the morning. Once the child hits their teen years they’re most likely going to be staying up later and waking up earlier, which is something their body won’t be prepared for. The child will most likely fall asleep in class or not be able to focus on their work. If a child wants to stay up longer than usual they should be able to without the worries of being tired in the morning. Most students stay up all night to get all of their homework done and only end up with a few hours of sleep.
