My Sweet Serenity Everything about the ocean makes me smile. The energy of all the climate uncertainties working in unison, all of the organisms living together, and even the beautifulness of it all puts a smile on my face. I have always loved the ocean since the first vacation I can remember. I remember standing on the balcony overlooking the ocean. There was never a moment where the wind wasn’t blowing if only just a slight breeze. The sun was setting across the water when I spotted a pod of dolphins leaping out of the water. Since that day the ocean has been my solitude of peace. Deep sea fishing creates scenes that would blow your mind. It’s the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. It amazes me how crystal clear the water is. My favorite part is to scan my eyes across the water and see the sun shimmer over the waves and see it streak through the water like a glass of filtered water. The beaches are gorgeous during the sunrise right after the workers drag the chains. The white sand is almost overwhelmingly white in the morning sunlight but I can’t look away. Even the birds of the beaches are as beautiful as anything I have ever seen. Until I started learning all about the organisms of the ocean I didn’t understand how diverse it really was. There are literally millions of organisms living together from the tiniest microbe to the largest whale shark. It’s funny how all of the organisms work together to form the chain of life which keeps the ocean functioning so smoothly. The mystery of what actually lives under that vast mass of water is part of the unknown that drives us to want us to learn more. It sparks my inner crypto zoologist because I never know what is down in the deepest caves. Everyone has heard of Yin and Yang but not many people know what it actually represents. It…

The Best Place For Serenity
The word serenity can mean many different things to a broad variety of people. If I was to ask each and every one in a room exactly where they found their serenity they might describe a place like their room reading a book or they just might say something like dancing in the rain listening to music. To me serenity is an attitude or place free from all the stress and worry that you…

you’re thinking that the Mayan doomsday people sat around laughing and drinking sweet hot chocolate, well… it’s more likely they’d be sitting around drinking a bitter, foamy cocoa flavored beer, disgusting right.
How chocolate came to be the popular sweet item we taste today was when it was mixed with several ingredients early European chocolate makers found it was pretty sweet and thought it could be introduced in a sweet form. One other reason cocoa beans were easy to grow and transport. The day…

A Bittersweet Regret
I woke up Tuesday morning excited for the day I was going to spend with my family but I never knew we would spend it weeping over the memories of my sweet cousin, Courtney.
I went along getting ready for my cousins party, or trying to at least. I still couldn't seem to shake the feeling that she wasn't okay. I could overhear my parents talking in the kitchen when they were interrupted by a phone call from my…
SWEET AS SUGAR
Growing up with Type 1 Diabetes was no fun. I was made fun of and labeled as the sick child by friends and teachers. My parents tried everything imaginable to provide me as “normal” of a life as possible but somehow nothing they did worked. I spent many wasted hours crying, trying to determine why I was different and what I could do to be like everyone else. I wanted to eat the cake and ice cream at my friend’s birthday party, eat the Girl Scout cookies, and drink Kool-Aid like…

The Benevolent Triad
When reading Timothy Mo’s Sour Sweet, the Triad is mainly depicted as a dark family, full of violence and crime and the death of Chen worsens the idea of the Triad and leaves the reader saddened. He has left his son fatherless and wife without a husband. Though when you look into detail you can see that Chen joining the Triad and the death of Chen was actually beneficial to his family.
