Abstract The purpose of this action research study is to determine if using math writing journals in a Kindergarten general education classroom would change the students' math fluency in the math skills being taught each week as well as their perception on writing in mathematics. This action research study will also evaluate the opinions of other teachers on math journals inside a classroom. Qualitative and Quantitative data were also collected to determine if the students math fluency in the math skills improve as a result in using the math journals during mathematical instruction. Students were tested at the beginning as well as the end of a math skill unit to find out if their scores had improved. At the end of each math skill study, the researcher could conclude that the math journals in Kindergarten were a positive attribute and addition to the Kindergarten classroom. Test scores improved massively, and students were having fun with writing when using the math journals.
