The Best Of A Leader “My definition of leadership is gaining respect and making an impact on people that is for the better”(Jillian Milano). Jillian is an everyday leader and has made an impact on countless people. Being confident and friendly is essential to being a good leader, but respecting others and gaining the respect of others makes them great. Good leaders are friendly and make everyone feel welcome. In the Ted Talk video, the speech explained that a movement can only start if the leader is ‘friendly to his first follower’ and ‘treats them like equals’ (Derek Sivers). If the leader is friendly to his followers, then other people will see that and be encouraged to join because they know it’s a safe environment. The Ted Talk video showed the movement only started and grew immensely because the leader was confident enough to dance alone in a park. Without that confidence, the movement would have never started. The leader’s show of confidence made him a good leader because that confidence led to a movement that had many followers. Ralph showed confidence as a leader in The Lord of the Flies. “Ralph pushed Piggy to one side. ‘I was chief, and you were going to do what I said’" (Golding 46). Ralph, as the elected leader, shows his power and confidence in himself by enforcing the rules he set.
