The Intolerable Acts: The Boston Tea Party

A series of acts were passed by the British Parliament in 1774. The acts were known together as the Intolerable Acts (because they were deemed “intolerable”), or the Coercive Acts.
The Intolerable Acts were passed as a result of the Boston Tea Party. Lord North was stunned at the colonist’s audacity, while King George agreed, stating, “We must master them totally, or leave them to themselves.” This showed that the people in charge of the British colonies were not about to let the colonists revolt. Four of the Intolerable Acts were made to punish Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party. (The fifth Act dealt with Quebec, not Boston or Massachusetts.) The first act stated that Boston Harbor would be closed until all the ruined tea dumped from
