Lord of the flies by William Golding is a timeless dystopian novel first published on September 17th, 1954. It tells the story of how young civilized upper-class boys (6-12 years in age) descent into chaos without proper authority figures, rules or societal structure. In this case, they are deserted on an island after a plane crash leaving no adults alive.
The boy of our focus today is the athletic, charismatic and primarily elected ruler of the island named Ralph. The slightly more mature than most kids rose to power with ease toward the beginning of the novel, however, was eventually overrun and out manned due to some key mistakes. Our primary focus of discussion will be the causes of this downfall and how they could have been avoided.

Primarily we are introduced to “Piggy” who is a rather heavy set kid and around the same age as Ralph. Of course, we are introduced to Ralph and given a short description of him but his next friend really becomes Simon. Though the book never clearly states that they are friends, it becomes rather obvious that through their teamwork of building shelters and helping out both piggy and Ralph, they had built a friendship. Although maybe Ralph would have been better off siding with the aggressive choir boy from the start. Sure Simon was productive and understood that Jack was full of it when warning about a beast on the island but Piggy was the exact opposite! He easily bought into Jack’s manipulations and was more of a littlun when it came to being productive. Realistically threw most of the story Piggy is taking care of the littluns. He’d constantly be playing on the beach and should have been named “Island Babysitter”. Alongside all of this Piggy wasn’t a fit young lad which of course brought on his nickname Piggy. But due to this if any physical confrontation were to break out he’d be less than unhelpful, heck the most useful thing he could do is be a meat shield for Ralph. Our final conclusion of Piggy is that he is an unhelpful, overweight babysitter that had no business being Ralph’s go to
