The SWOOSH logo is a graphic design created by Caroline Davidson in 1971. She met Phil Knight while he was teaching accounting classes and she started doing some freelance work for his company. Phil Knight asked Caroline to design a logo that could be placed on the side of a shoe. She handed him the SWOOSH, he handed her $35.00. In 1972, the first shoe with the NIKE SWOOSH was introduced.
Bill Bowerman's quest for lighter, more durable racing shoes for his Oregon runners, and Knight's search for a way to make a living without having to give up his love of athletics. Bowerman coached track at the University of Oregon where Phil Knight ran in 1959. Bowerman's desire for better quality running shoes clearly influenced Knight in his search for …show more content…
Knight scheduled an interview with a Japanese running shoe manufacturer, Tiger a subsidiary of the Onitsuka Company. Presenting himself as the representative of an American distributor interested in selling Tiger shoes to American runners. Knight told the businessmen of his interest in their product. The Tiger executives liked what they heard and Knight placed his first order for Tigers soon after.
By 1964, Knight had sold $8,000 worth of Tigers and placed an order for more. Coach Bowerman and Knight worked together, but ended up hiring a full-time salesman, Jeff Johnson. After cresting $1 million in sales, Knight devised the Nike name and trademark Swoosh in 1971. Today they are making clothes and everything else you can think of. They are also one of the biggest and best shoe company around.

You can choose from colors and styles and you can put your name on your shoes.
They also have many people with contracts such as Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Michael Jordan. Nike first signed Kobe in 2005 and has been with him since. Kobe has had 10 shoes released since he has been with Nike (cardboardcollection.com). Nike has been paying Kobe 8 million dollars a year (answers.com).
Nike signed LeBron in 2003 when he was still in high school. Nike payed LeBron 90 million dollars for a 7 year contract (slate.com). LeBron has released 13 pairs of shoes since he signed with Nike in 2003 (cardboardcollection.com). Nike signed Kevin in 2007 for 60 million dollar deal. Since he signed in 2007 Kevin has released 6 pairs of shoes (ibtimes.com). Nike signed Michael Jordon in 1984, they payed him 45 million dollars (answers.com).
