Who Should Control Jerusalem? The Israelis and Palestinians have been fighting over who should control Jerusalem for years. Throughout these years, a lot of agreements and contracts have been proposed by the U.N. and other countries, but nothing has solved this major issue. Many people question who should control Jerusalem. The Israelis and Palestinians both have acceptable and worthy reasons as to why they should control Jerusalem. While The Jerusalem Conflict has been a problem for a long time, many big events began to spiral in 1947. According to a timeline in the Commonwealth Times, this was when the U.N. was wanting to separate the Arab nation into three different areas- the Jewish state of Israel, an Arab state, and a Special International Regime for the city of Jerusalem. In May 1948, Israel seized Jerusalem in the Arab-Israeli war. Jerusalem has been a large part of their lives for centuries. In the Old Testament, it talks about how Jerusalem has been the Israeli’s holy city since the 10th century BCE with King David. The Israelis also had control over Jerusalem for over a thousand years. Furthermore, according to mfa.gov.il, the Israelis have accepted many partitions and agreements to try to create peace (1947 UN Partition, 1993 Oslo Accords). Also, referring to an article from NPR by Tom Gjelten, the Bible states that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel in 2 Chronicles 6:5-6, “Since the day I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city in all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house...but I have chosen Jerusalem that my name may be there and I have chosen David to be over my people
