Why People Go Straight To College

A stunning red cardinal just finished her beautiful nest in an old creaky oak tree. Tomorrow she will lay 2 glossy grayish eggs that will incubate for about eleven days. The first baby begins to peck out of his egg with determination. One week later the male cardinal who got out first is leaving the nest a whole three days before the other. He gets to take in the world and learn that there is more beyond the nest, while the other is not learning how to survive and fly quite yet. The male cardinal will have a giant head start on the other in their lies. Just as the first-born cardinal got the edge on his fellow brother so can we by going straight to college after high school. When people choose to go straight to college, instead of waiting it creates good financial opportunities, it creates proactive skills, and it creates positive opportunities for the future. Many people who take gap years do so because they are burnt out from high school. I personally know many people even some family members who have tried this gap year idea and failed to go back to college. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation reports i its publication,”Inadequate study skills increase the risk of academic disaster and students have much to gain if they develop these skills.” this quote supports the claim that if you lose your study habits you are most likely to struggle throughout college.
