Anne Hutchinson was put to trial in Massachusetts courts in 1637 due to her holding religious meetings in her home. Anne Hutchinson believed many of the Massachusetts ministers preached false information; ministers believed that people would go to Heaven by attending church and by having moral behavior. Hutchinson believed that people were predestined to go to Heaven and redemption could not be earned. Hutchinson was put on trial because she violated Puritan beliefs; she thought God was speaking to her directly, instead of through the Bible or ministers. At the trial, Governor John Winthrop questions Anne Hutchinson. He states why she was brought to trial; he says that Hutchinson caused trouble by speaking against the church. He says that
