Abstract This paper presents an overview of research on Transportation Security Administration. The history, security components, different technologies that elaborated with airport security and TSA role in our country.
Introduction:
Airport security has been a prime concern in our country after World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001. In result of attacks is the creation of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). TSA was designed to prevent such attacks in the future. On the morning of 9/11, nineteen terrorists managed to pass the security control points and board the unsuspicious commercial airlines which kill numerous people. America then realized a loud wake-up call to check on America’s airline security much needed. On November 19, 2001, the U.S Congress proceeded the Aviation and Transportation Security Act which was signed by President George W. Bush (CITE). In March 2003 TSA became part of newly created which was mandated with developing and implementing strategies to guarantee the safety of our nation. TSA enhances public safety and develops policies to protect people who are traveling via many transportations such as buses, ports, railroads, TSA screens luggage and passengers, highway and transportation hubs. Airport safety and preventing aircraft hijacking are significant concerns of the TSA. The transportation security officers at the airports are responsible for examining travelers and their suitcases to ensure there aren't any prohibited items with them. They are also responsible for checking passenger’s list and comparing if there are any individuals considering to be a threat or at risk of being a security threat. And finally, they would determine who is need further screening or should not be allowed to board the plane (DHS). Visible Intermodal Prevention and Respond team is also a member of TSA who is responsible for detaining travelers or patrol at railways and mass transit system (public transportation which uses buses and trains) or inspects vehicles, shops and containers. They can also be placed to deal with chemical, biological, radioactive, nuclear and explosive weapons (CBRNE) (CITE) to keep country and transportation
