Every life has a setting, and every setting has a challenge. The challenge in which influences how each character is molded. In A Long Walk to Water, the author, Linda Sue Park, describes two characters, Salva and Nya. Salva was a desperate boy who trailed through the scorching desert under the persistent hammering of the fireball up above and finally ended up in a futureless refugee camp. Nya was a young girl who was forced to walk miles and miles from her dry home to bring back a necessity for life, water. In the novel, harsh environments change and shape the natures of the two characters. As Salva trudges through the Akobo Desert, he accidentally jams his toenail into a rock. Ouch!
