The article that I am going to discuss in this assignment has the title “Hand washing really does reduce infection, trial scheme finds” (Lyons, 2015), which was published in The Guardian, a major newspaper publisher in the UK. The news article summarized a three-year study involving 20,000 adults showing that washing hands reduces infections (Little et al., 2015). The trial provided online education about proper hand-washing techniques, which led to a 15% to 25% drop in infections compared to a control group. Participants increased hand-washing from six to ten times a day and reported fewer respiratory, influenza, and gastrointestinal illnesses. They were also 10% less likely to spread infections at home.
