Later School Start Times

McKeel Academy should shorten it's time by 30 minutes to an hour and start later in the morning. These are essential for students to get better grades in school. If schools start really early in morning, students won't be able to show their full potential. Even if it is only 30 minutes later than regular starting times. School is a place where students go to get smarter so they can get good jobs, but they won't be able to do that if schools hold back what they are capable of.

The later school starts, the better. It has been scientifically proven that students who start school with later times tend to get better grades and better test results. 43.1% of schools start from 8:00 to 8:30 while only 9.5% start before 7:30 am (US Department of Education). "Teens who drive themselves to school also risk the chance of getting into crashes by getting drowsy; however, studies have shown that schools with later start times have a significant change in the number of car crashes (The National Sleep Foundation)." Some may argue that starting school later may effect parents work schedule and may impact students after school jobs. "Though parents have said they are willing to adjust their schedule if it means that their kids can do better in school (The National Sleep Foundation)." Having more sleep over weighs less time in the afternoon and if we adjust the school start times, far fewer students will have sleep deprivation in America.
