Have you ever read a book and watched a movie, comparing a play to a movie reveals both similarities and differences? This essay will analyze the similarities and differences between Act 1 scenes 4 and 5 in both the play and movie adaptation, which were created by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, based on Anne's diary.

The movie and play share many similarities, particularly in how they depict Anne's life in hiding. One notable similarity occurs in Act 1, Scene 4, where Anne has a nightmare that disturbs Mr. Dussel's sleep. He becomes angry and complains about her screaming. Although Anne's mother tries to comfort her with hugs and kisses, Anne rejects this and leaves her mother feeling shocked and sad. She then seeks solace from her father,

Additionally, Anne gives gifts to everyone while wearing a makeshift crown made from a lamp shade. Margot receives a puzzle, Mrs. Van Daan is given perfume, Mr. Van Daan receives two cigarettes, Anne gifts her father a scarf, Mouschi gets a ball to play with, Peter receives a razor for shaving purposes, Mr. Dussel is given ear plugs for better sleep, and Anne presents her mom with a coupon book.

Another difference is a scene where a soldier shoots his gun at a man, while Anne dreams about her best friend being in a prison camp. Additionally, Mr. Van Daan expresses his belief that someone was murdering Anne, only to find out that it was not true. One major difference is the occurrence of a large explosion that causes the Annex to shake. They also witnessed a plane and saw lights shining towards it. When Anne hands out gifts to everyone, she wears a crown instead of using a lamp shade. Furthermore, when an intruder breaks into the house, he looks back at the bookshelf suspiciously. The movie portrays airplanes being shot at and bombs going off, which causes the Annex to shake again. In another instance, an intruder enters and Mr. Frank stands behind the front door with a hammer as protection. Upon hearing the sound of the Green Police marching outside, Anne faints from shock. Finally, soldiers search through the Annex while Mouschi (the cat) moves around and makes noise during their
