Should High School Students Be Required To Learn A Foreign Language

In North Carolina and in many other states, high schools students are required to take and complete at least one and sometimes more foreign languages courses, but should that be an actual requirement? Many students, across the nation and not just here at South Brunswick, believe that it should not be a requirement. Some might ask why wouldn't you want to learn another language? Students today feel like since they want to stay here in the U.S. they should have the option to not take another language. I was once one of those students who did not want to learn a foreign language, but now I realize how important and helpful it can be in high school.
