TV Program Review Essay

Many associate science-fiction and fantasy-fiction with the “geeks and nerds” of schools, offices, etc. However, that is not necessarily true. Such kinds of fiction, along with horror-fiction fascinate many people. Fantasy and horror fiction use incredible figures that tend to stand out and attract the watcher to view more. Supernatural, a television show that contains all three types of fiction, uses multiple characters to create an outstanding path for the viewer’s imagination.

There are three main characters in “Supernatural.” They are:

~ Dean Winchester - He is a human and hunter as well as a member of the Men Of Letters. Dean is also the destined vessel of the archangel, Michael. His main role in the series being the self-appointed guardian of Sam and often going to extreme lengths to protect him regardless of personal cost.

~ Sam Winchester - He is a human and hunter as well as a member of the Men Of Letters along with his brother Dean. He was pre-destined to be the vessel of the fallen archangel, Lucifer. He is mentally strong, evidenced by his ability to overpower possession by Lucifer. It has been argued that he is the smarter of the Winchester brothers, although Sam himself would disagree. He has repeatedly sacrificed himself for the greater good, highlighting his selfless nature.

~ Castiel - He is a powerful angel of the Lord, who was responsible for saving Dean Winchester from Hell, on the archangels’ command. He is the only angel that is shown to have been resurrected after having been killed, and he has been resurrected more than once. Although Castiel believes he is able to outsmart others (since he is a very strong angel), he is humble and doesn’t see much of the wrong in people.

Although a crazy and fascinating television show, restrictions are needed. Each episode has its share of slurs and slightly gruesome parts. In my opinion, kids under the age of 13 shouldn’t be able to watch it. It shouldn’t be acceptable for very young children to learn such vile language. There are numerous demons and monsters that are killed in this show which is another reason why children shouldn’t be allowed to view. In only a few scenes, there are moments that are associated with sexual content. However, nothing of that matter is shown. Aside from these issues, the story line is absolutely insane and the set-up leaves you wanting to watch more of it.

To be able to create a show like this one, it would take someone with a broad amount of ideas to create it. It is quite difficult to build up and remain successful in the film industry; especially when people expect to be amused and satisfied with every single episode there is. Supernatural uses different theories, stories, myths and beliefs from all over the world to create another battle for Sam and Dean to conquer over. Some may complain that the episodes are repetitive, yet they don’t seem to remember that the main goal for the Winchester’s is to remove nearly all the evil in the world. In the story line, demons are the reason why people attempt to do wrong. In order to put a stop to these demons, the brother’s must kill them. Repetition is used only for that significant matter. This show can please many because comedy and romance are included as well. Dean has a habit of using his sarcasm at some of the
