I received supervisor evaluation in the course of my Developmental Services Worker (DSW) program placements. According to our notes, “Performance feedback is defined as information provided to a mediator about the quality or quantity of their past performance/ behaviour (diagnostic feedback) that allows a person to change his/ her future performance behaviour” (Seneca College, 2016). However, these evaluations are not always done in an appropriate manner and their benefit is lost. Psychologist Thomas Gilbert (1927-1995) stated that in his experience many performance difficulties resulted from, “inadequate information that confirms how well someone is performing.” Evaluations on your performance should not only provide direction but as well the performance feedback that you receive from your supervisor should provide confirmation on what you are doing …show more content…
The feedback I received reflected on my strengths and what I was good at, as well indicated what I needed to work and improve upon. My supervisor allowed me time to read the written information beforehand in a quiet private area and this gave me time to reflect on the content. The interview took place in a private comfortable location. She made eye contact with me and made me feel comfortable, by asking my opinion on issues and her questions provoked thought and self-reflection. I was able at the end to provide my written input and was given a copy which again provided me the opportunity to reflect. My work relationship with this supervisor as a result was excellent and I was never wary of asking questions, or of implementing what I had learned, and I knew she valued my opinion.
