Many high and middle schools have been deciding whether or not to change their first class times to later times to give students more sleeping time. However, changing the school start times can severely upset students’ schedules and their families’ as well. Schools should not push back their start times.

If school start times were later, extracurricular activities after school would be delayed. This could clash with many students’ schedules, such as after-school jobs. Sports teams would also have a problem with darkness, and student athletes would have to skip their last class or two to make it to away games. The students would generally arrive home later, and homework still needs to be completed.
