Women all a crossed the world have children every day. This is a joyous event in many mothers lives. They love them, nurture them, teach them, and raise them in a stable family environment. Unfortunately, this is not always the situation. Some women that become pregnant are scared because they can’t take care of a child because of various reasons ,ie; not married, not enough money, and no family support. They panic and need or want a way out of their situation. Two choices are available to most women, abortions and adoptions.

Every state has different laws regarding abortion. Another option women have when there is an unplanned pregnancy is to give the baby up for adoption. There were 1.5 million adopted children in the United States, representing 2.5 percent of all U.S. children which tells us there were 1.5 million children that have gotten a better home than they had started with. Adoption is a great opportunity for women to have a child that they couldn’t have themselves due to infertility. There are a couple different adoption processes. One is a closed adoption which means the birth mother and the adopting parents have never met and no information is given as far as names, addresses, ect. The birth mother never has contact with the baby she gave up. As years have passed another choice in adoption is known as an “Open adoption.” In an open adoption the birth mother actually develops a relationship with the adopting family. A birth mother may even move in or receive financial help from the persons adopting the baby. The Adopting person or persons may keep in touch with the birth mother with letters and pictures, maybe monthly or yearly. Even with the options that I have described above, Research still shows that 75 percent of unwed women choose to keep their baby, which is the highest out of all the options. Resources are available for single mothers that range of housing assistance, daycare assistance and education scholarships and grants. Learnvest this explains about government child support that helps single mothers with the day to day expenses, for instance food and clothes. Medical help is also available thru government services. The various helps that are available for the single mom makes the decision of keeping a baby and all the financial hardships that come with raising a child
