Family is an important theme in the book A Long Walk To Water because in the book there were many moments when Salva found a family he could turn to. The first example is when Salva is traveling with the dinka group that is migrating to Ethiopia. During the trip he felt like he was lonely and was losing hope in his family.Then he makes a friend named Mariel, but later finds his uncle in the group.
