The triangle shirtwaist factory fire of 1911 remains one of the biggest tragedies in the history of New York City. Perhaps surpassed by the 9-11-01 terrorist attacks. The progressive era did more to call attention to the need of factory reform in terms of working conditions. Unfortunaley, reform was not immediate, but that's when child laws and safety codes were not enforced.
Many New Yorker such as 400,000 came to pay tribute to the unidentifiers on April 5th. One by one hundreds of shirtwaist manufactures accepts their workers demand for the union. The triangle workers weren't so fortunate. After that a fire started on the 8th floor of the ash building. Some people had rushed down the stairs and some went to the top or the building roof
