Why I Chose Community College

On a warm sunny day waiting in line for my high school graduation ceremony to commence, my emotions were mixed with happiness for graduating high school, but also nervous because of the daunting task of figuring out what I would do after high school. As my name was called to obtain my diploma I could hear my family’s cheers from the stands and those mix emotions were suppressed by joy for a few brief moments. After graduation, I started to weight in my possible options after high school. I ultimately selected to continue my education by registering for community college. This path came with stumbling obstacles as I would soon find out. These obstacles consisted of selecting a major, getting familiar with the college environment, and an intimidating process of transferring. The major that was offered by the program was computer science, a major I highly was interested in for its potential to apply it applications to improve vast areas of different fields. Computer science also intrigued me because of the major’s potential to resolve world problems and the capability to assist people. The program also provided an easy transition between community college to a four year institute which took some of my worries away.
Another key factor with the CSIT-IN-3 program was the Matsui scholarship. Coming from a low income family I had the believe that my option for a higher education were limited due to the rising cost college tuition. My parents were always supportive with my decision
