Chocolate Cake, Anyone? Sunday morning, April 26, a fresh, hot cup of coffee and the weekly newspaper. I sat perusing the pages as I lightly blew the steam from my cup sipping carefully, as to not take in too much and burn my tongue; Nothing worse than a burnt tongue. Local News Headline: Beloved child advocate and neighborhood mentor slain!
My attention drew away from the heat of the cup to the story before me. “Mr. Dawson Willard, 68, longtime advocate for child rights and safety was found yesterday tied and killed in what officials are calling a robbery homicide.” Mr. Willard's place was one of the neighborhood kids’ favorite place to hang out and play, he had the biggest and best yard for touch football that any kid could dream for.

My attention drew away from the heat of the cup to the story before me. “James J. Riley, formerly charged with the April 25, 2021 murder of Dawson Willard, was released today by County Judge Robert Raite.” All charges have been dropped and Mr. Riley was cleared of any wrong doing. Police Chief Tims reported that, “Mr. Riley confessed to cover for his 10 year old son who may have actually been the person that killed Dawson Willard. Mr. Riley's son, (name withheld) apparently told a school counselor during a conversation he had with her that, Mr. Willard used to touch him in places he did not like. This happened all the time; he just wouldn't stop no matter how many times he said no.” As reported by guidance counselor, Victoria Main, after the Riley boy's confession to her.
