Symbol of History or Hate? When traveling to our southern states there used to be a very distinct sign of the south, that of course being the Confederate Flag. In the south the flag was shown everywhere which leads us to the problem of today, two definitions of a historic symbol. The confederate flag sparks emotions across the world whether it is a sense of pride and history or a sense of fear and hatred that others feel the flag is seen today as one of the most controversial objects in today's society and splits opinions into a debate that pits the north against the south as it once has in the past; the majority of the north views the flag as hateful and racist, while in the south the more popular view is it is a historic symbol of history; …show more content…
